Day 5

Private Workshop with Tamir Purev

Samandbadraa Tamir Purev is one of a small number of people keeping traditional Mongolian vertical script alive as a living art form. His grandmother preserved it through Soviet censorship. He created the calligraphy behind the Khiimori World logo. Two hours. Ink, breath, vertical strokes. You make something and take it home.

Days 6–7

Arkhangai Naadam — Tsetserleg

Naadam is 2,235 years old. It started as military training in the Hunnu Empire and it never stopped. Arkhangai Province holds its Naadam on July 10–11. Not for cameras. Not for tour groups. This is provincial Naadam. The wrestlers perform the devekh — an eagle dance with shamanic roots. The horse jockeys are children. The Tümen Ekh orchestra plays on instruments from 1696. You're there for both days.

Day 8

Tsenkher Hot Springs

50 kilometers south of Tsetserleg, in a river valley that doesn't announce itself. Natural hot springs at 86°C at the source. After two days of Naadam — the roar, the crowd, the ceremony — your body needs something that asks nothing of it. The water smells like minerals and time. You get in.

Day 10

Tövkhön Monastery

Zanabazar built this hermitage at age 20, alone, on a granite pinnacle in the Khangai mountains. He created the Soyombo script here — the symbol now on Mongolia's flag. A 60-minute climb through pine forest. A meditation cave still in active use. A rebirth passage. You hike up from your nomadic family camp the same morning. Almost no commercial tours include this stop.
